An experienced Placement counsellor will always advise on the following to tackle the most important part of the Placement Test process: The Aptitude Tests
Before going into the details about the Aptitude Test let us first address some fundamental issues which will make an aspirant’s journey less stressful.
Why do companies rely on Aptitude Tests to sort out the best candidates before the final selection like Group discussion or Interview Rounds?
Most companies get the basic information about the candidate general ability from their Resume and college/ course CGPA scores
Since every company has certain eligibility scale, and once the student satisfies their basic minimum criterion, mainly on the strength of their CGPA score and also their Resume enumerating their academic accomplishments or special certifications, they are good to take the first stage of the test.
It is important to note that on average almost 90% of the aspirants get eliminated during the Aptitude Tests round. So, this Test round is very important to move on to the final Group discussion or Interview rounds.
Understating Aptitude Tests in Detail:
One has to remember that there are no shortcuts or easy tips and tricks to clear this round. Since they test on some basic common knowledge which the student might have come across while in school and high-school. The best strategy is to revise and have sufficient practice and develop unique methods to solve the test questions in the time allotted for the sections, which involves basic arithmetic or algebraic expressions, Data Interpretation, English Grammar and Logical reasoning.
What is the common testing method used for Aptitude Tests?
The tests mainly follow the “Multiple Choice Question (MCQ)” pattern, and it is important to develop strategies to tackle the format. Most students from tradition educational institutions have developed a habit for long-form answers but Multiple- Choice Questions require different strategies. One example of one such strategy is answer elimination strategy. i.e., eliminate all the wrong answer choices to arrive at the possible answer. And without a strategy or plan, one cannot attempt and solve all the questions in the allotted time.
All the topics in the Aptitude Tests are strictly timed and on average students are required to resolve a question in 60 to 90 seconds. On average they must solve 60 test questions in 60 to 90 minutes!
